- £50m to support more regional creative clusters.
- Building a pipeline of skills and talent through new creative careers promise.
The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak, said: “The creative industries are a true British success story, from global music stars like Adele and Ed Sheeran to world-class cultural institutions like the National Theatre. These industries have a special place in our national life and make a unique contribution to how we feel about ourselves as a country. We want to build on this incredible success to drive growth in our economy – one of my key priorities – and to ensure that UK creative industries continue to lead the world long into the future.
Culture Secretary Lucy Frazer said: “The imagination and ingenuity of British designers, producers, content creators, writers and artists are spearheading growth right across our economy.
ACID commented, “For too long, the dialogue has been about fintech so it’s right that there is a sharp focus on the creative industries and its social and economic value being championed as a vehicle for growth.
Whilst we welcome focus on the Fashion sector and admire funds for the circularity campaign, design is often misunderstood as aesthetic only. Design is an integral part of the creative industries and its reach spans advertising, architecture, arts, crafts, fashion, film, music, performing, arts, publishing, software, toys, games, tv, radio and video. All of which provide jobs for nearly 2million people.“
Dids Macdonald OBE and CEO of ACID said, “It is also true that the design economy and design thinking permeate all government departments providing rational problem-solving processes as well as ground breaking innovation in all areas. From health to agriculture and defence to transport, design consistently provides ground breaking solutions. I call on Government to provide a level playing field for all designers. Currently there is a disparity between copyright and unregistered design rights in both term and protection. The IP rights underpinning this important sector is critical.”
Minnie Moll, CEO of the Design Council said, “The design sector alone has grown by 73% in the last 10 years, and as well as being such a significant economic sector, the creative industries have the unique ability to harness the power of creativity and storytelling to bring about positive and enduring change for people and planet. Having been acknowledged as a top 5 growth area, the sector vision brings further recognition of the power and potential of our world leading creative industries.”

In summary, Chris Smith of UK Creative said, “There is a shared ambition to support the creative industries across Britain and build on the success over many years as a growth engine. In Innovate UK there have been successes, where investment enables UK-based small and medium-sized enterprises to innovate, capitalise on emerging markets and grow and we will build. We will build on the success of the Creative Industries Clusters Programme to support place-based, responsible, innovation-led growth in the creative industries. We are keen to do more, working in partnership to explore our role within a much wider landscape. Last but by no means least, we want to harness the potential of the creative sector to change the world for the better.
Sir Peter Bazalgette, industry co-Chair of the Creative Industries Council said: “The Creative Industries are coming of age with this ambitious policy framework for economic growth and cultural value. Our Sector Vision, developed jointly with government, champions R&D-led innovation and future skills, drawing on the talent of all our communities. It also promotes positive impact on health & wellbeing, the environment & Britain’s global reach. Helped by the government’s new spending commitments, the work starts now to deliver on this growth agenda.”
