The Young Furniture Makers exhibition returns to the City of London for one day only this October, offering industry the opportunity to connect with young designer-makers who are looking to make an impact on the sector.
Organised by The Furniture Makers’ Company, the event showcases the very best furniture and furnishing design talent from GCSE students to young professionals.
Around 150 designers from schools, colleges, universities and graduates from across the UK will be showcasing pieces, including furniture and lighting intended for the domestic and contract market.
The event, which is sponsored by Axminster Tools & Machinery and supported by The January Furniture Show and The Furniture Ombudsman, will take place on Wednesday 9 October (12.00pm-9.00pm) at Furniture Makers’ Hall and the Dutch Church in Austin Friars, London.
Dids Macdonald OBE, Master of The Furniture Makers’ Company, will welcome guests from the furniture and design community at 7.00pm before a prize giving with a special to-be-announced guest.
Jonny Westbrooke, CEO of The Furniture Makers’ Company, said: “The Young Furniture Makers exhibition is an extraordinary and unmissable celebration of talented young designer-makers, many of whom are in the early stages of their career and looking for employment. We encourage everyone to come and meet the future of design at the exhibition.”
Alan Styles, managing director at Axminster Tools & Machinery, said: “We feel proud to support the Young Furniture Makers and their exhibition. The event is a great way for students, education and industry to come together and network. The work by The Furniture Makers’ Company and the many individuals who give their time is making a notable difference. Axminster is focused on developing products and services to suit its many customers. Our association with Young Furniture Makers and The Furniture Makers’ Company gives us a great insight into how to develop what we do, so we feel privileged to give back.
“It allows students to put themselves across to different people, to meet other students from other colleges and so on and from industry too. It allows them to learn how to present themselves which is a good skill to learn as they go further forward into their careers.”
