Find out from Pogofandango how their proactive IP strategy utilises ACID Membership Benefits to support their IP Rights to ensure business growth!

When did you first start creating your products/designs?

We first started creating our cards in 2008. I was just out of uni and Gill was in her final year of a contemporary crafts degree.

In 2011, notonthehighstreet.com invited us to start selling with them, we developed a range of personalised papercut cards and it all took off from there.

Did you have any knowledge of intellectual property at that time?

Only what we had learnt at uni, which was minimal. We believe that more should be done by universities to ensure that graduates come to market IP-prepared. ACID, we understand, has just launched a new student membership.

Which ACID Membership services have you used and how have you benefitted from being a member?

We have had to use ACID services a couple of times but we were assured by the advice we received.

We had a problem arise and ended up having to speak to an intellectual property lawyer. He was amazing and really put our minds at ease.

We also put the ACID logo on the back of all of our cards. Sadly we do get copied a lot but having the ACID logo on our products shows people that we take it seriously and we believe it will become a real deterrent message communicating our anti copying messaging.

Have you brought anything new to the marketplace recently that you would like to share?

We are just in the process of launching a wholesale collection of both printed and laser cut greetings cards.

Also, not really new to the market place but we are buying a defibrillator for our town with funds raised from sales of wooden hearts.

What is the best aspect of ACID Membership for your business?

The reassurance of knowing that if we have a problem, we can pick up the phone and get the help we need. It’s also really great to feel like part of a bigger network of like-minded people who share the same objectives about originators reaping the value of their own designs.

What advice would you offer to a new designer?

Be original, work hard and do what you love! Oh and don’t forget to protect your work!

Also, keep records!  We post our designs on our social media so that we can prove dates if needed.

We had an issue recently where someone was selling copies of our work, but they had recently taken over the business. We were able to easily prove that we had been selling the original design for much longer than the copies had been available.

NB ACID would also always advise submitting to the Copyright & Design Databank.https://www.pogofandango.co.uk
