MAKE IT FAIR UPDATE – URGENT ACTION NEEDED

ACID is proud to be part of the Creative Rights in AI Coalition here

Many of you have written to your MP asking them to safeguard our creative rights in AI and MPs have told us that your emails have caused them to look at this issue properly for the first time, so big thanks.

With so many issues in front of parliamentarians at the moment, it is so important that this is on radar especially at the all important Report Stage which is imminent and MPs will soon vote on crucial changes to the Data Bill, a piece of legislation currently going through Parliament that would protect creators.

We need you to write to your MP again to ask them to support these vital changes.

The original letter has been updated with details about the upcoming vote, so all you need to do is use the same link as before to write to your MP:  It is so simple, just enter your postcode and details and look at the template letter and send it to you MP

Background – Data (and Users) Bill

Ahead of the Report stage of the above Bill, it seems there may be an opportunity to see transparency-focused amendments made on the face of the Bill. Therefore, there is an urgent call to action to the government to use the Data Bill to introduce meaningful transparency on AI inputs, which would be the most opportune moment to present the Coalition’s position.

Amendments NC 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6, and NC 14 – tabled to the Data (Use and Access) Bill – would do just that, protecting creators by giving us meaningful transparency over what works AI firms have used. This will allow creators to identify copyright infringement and negotiate a fair deal with AI firms for the use of our content. Report Stage of the Bill will come early in May, and I ask you to sign and speak in support of these urgently needed amendments.

Action Needed from all those (15000) who share our views to re-contact MPs asking them to support amendments tabled to the Data Bill, as well as amending the Coalition letter itself to reflect this new ask for MPs.

ACID is committed to support a fair and transparent use of AI for training purposes on behalf of designers with the required attribution, safeguards and recompense. Our voice is further amplified by being part of the Creative Rights in IP Coalition which meets weekly.
