Our friends at IPKat Marks Class 99 have informed us of the highly successful first ever edition of the DesignEuropa Talks held on 20 October.
The highly anticipated first-ever edition of the DesignEuropa Talks welcomed more than 400 design enthusiasts to the EUIPO campus in Alicante and was streamed online for others to access from all over the world.
They invited us to watch this 2-minute aftermovie of the DesignEuropa Talks to relive some of the best moments of the event.
The event celebrated design through a series of informative panel discussions led by distinguished experts on a wide range of subjects. Speakers included participants from the DesignEuropa community, previous winners, finalists, jury members and others. Topics discussed included the present and future of design, how it powers our economy and impacts society.
This initiative built on the highly successful biennial DesignEuropa Awards, which celebrates excellence in design. Additionally, it expanded the DesignEuropa Awards community, whilst highlighting the effective use of design and how its protection via the Registered Community Design (RCD) can help drive economic, social, cultural and environmental development.
Dids Macdonald, OBE., CEO of anti Copying in Design said, “What an excellent EUIPO initiative, if only our UK IPO would reach out and engage with our own fantastic UK design & creative sector in this way – encouraging IP creators to tell their story. Engagement by policy teams would give a greater insight and understanding into the power of design to create solutions in the ever-changing world in which we reside and the important part they play. A class example of IP as a positive force for innovation and growth.”
During the day, inspiring moderators discussed everything from the changing vision of design to the need to increase awareness of IP.
The event opened with a lively panel discussion on design education and IP protection: necessity or desire followed by a panel on the challenges and opportunities in the design industry followed and a presentation on the New European Bauhaus Initiative rounded up the morning session.
The afternoon consisted of a series of more practical panels and talks including a discussion focused on the impact of design on the value of your business. Later, participants had the opportunity to get to know the EUIPO better and see first-hand what the EUIPO does. Finally, a panel of winners and finalists of previous DesignEuropa Awards editions took to the floor to share their inspiring success stories.
