It is with heavy hearts that we have been informed that long-standing ACID member Turnstyle Designs’ founder has passed away.
Turnstyle Designs was founded by Stephen Richard Roberts (19th June 1963 – 14th October 2023) some 30 years ago. As with all true innovators, he saw a gap in the market and went about designing products which filled the space and developed his company into one of outstanding British design. Their luxury door hardware for high-end residential, commercial and yacht projects are prime examples of British design and craftmanship. Their attention to detail, hand stitched leather and individually hammered metal is created with exquisite skill.
Great design in every detail must be filled with quality and be functional. In Stephen’s words,
“A handle is like a button on a coat, it can make or break a great room or piece of furniture and it has to function as well as it looks.”
ACID members right from the beginning, Turnstyle Designs were no.11 to sign up to membership. Stephen has proven not only his expertise in design, but his profound belief in the worth and value of upholding respect and ethics of intellectual property (IP) within the design industry.
We will forever be grateful for his support and kind words about our organisation, when Steve stated,
“I have been an ACID member from the start (our registration number is 11), we have been proud to fly the flag at every exhibition and on all our sales and marketing literature, knowing that it is an organisation that has teeth and that is taken seriously. Relentless campaigning and engagement has led to some fantastic results and has kept the relevance and importance of design IP at the forefront of industry and government.”
Dids Macdonald OBE., CEO of ACID, said, “Our deepest condolences and thoughts are with Stephen’s family, his wife Christina and their three children Oscar, Joshua and Eliza. I understand that Oscar will continue as MD of Turnstyle Designs, developing further on Stephen’s rich legacy and design insight, craftsmanship, innovation and vision. All our good wishes, too, are extended to the Turnstyle team”.
