Anti Copying In Design (ACID) speaks out.
Do you care that your intellectual property (IP) can be used by generated AI for training purposes without your permission? Do you care that you will not be attributed for the precious work that you create, nor will there be transparency about how it is used or that you will be paid for its use? Do you care that there is currently no easy to access to a transparent “opt out“ process if you don’t want your IP content used by AI?
Do you care that the world’s AI leaders trading on your copyright content are worth staggering 9 trillion dollars and growing?
Do you care that our government is planning to trample on centuries old copyright laws to achieve growth through AI without safeguards for creators?
If the answer is yes, this is what you can do:
Act Now– sign our ACID IP and AI Charter calling for respect, ethics and compliance.
Act Now – use our template letter to send to your MP
Act Now – use our social media assets to communicate your disagreement with the government’s plan and push for easy to access licensing agreements that AI will be compelled to use if they plan to use your IP content
Current IP landscape – Whilst the Copyright and AI Consultation closed on 25th February, momentum must not be lost and we urge all designers to think positively about how they can make their views known. Please see two submissions here, one from ACID as part of the Alliance for IP and the other from ACID. The government received an unprecedented number of responses – over 11,000 submissions! Creators feel aggrieved. This led to an outcry by many and action from the Creative Rights and AI Coalition in its MAKE IT FAIR campaign of which ACID is a member.
ACID Views
We are firmly against any move by the Government to erode copyright law to allow a text and data mining exception for AI “training”, a euphemism, in our view, for theft.
We strongly support an ideal situation which is to create a mandatory licensing model which would be win-win for all.
We support the government harnessing the incredible power of AI to achieve growth but only if it is fair for content creators.
We demand that there should be greater transparency from AI and Big Tech about using the IP content of others without permission
