The CCUK ‘Get it Right’ consumer education campaign has been working hard to promote legal sources of creative content and to reduce infringing behaviour.
The campaign, backed by Government and creative industries funding and support, is now moving to its next planned phase with a new mini-series that shares stories from creators and influencers as they discuss their love of content and what goes into creating it. The videos will get us to think about what’s involved in the creative process, including the hours of planning, conceptualising and crafting, and the large team of dedicated people working hard behind-the-scenes.
The first of these Influencer Videos produced for CCUK by MSL features YouTube sensation Caspar Lee and influencer Snoochie Shy, and was launched on Get it Right’s YouTube platform on Thursday 15th August. It will be supported by a digital marketing and social media campaign using the #GetItRight hashtag.
Caspar knows better than most the impact of piracy. With over 10 million followers across platforms, he has a very healthy fan base but this doesn’t always translate into consumption from the right sources. His film Laid in America was a smash hit but in one month alone it was illegally streamed or downloaded more than 500,000 times. Caspar discusses some of the music and films that he’s been enjoying and looks at the number of hours that went into creating this content.
The key takeout is that as we continue to watch, listen and absorb the great content we all love – vlogs, films, tv shows, music, games, media – we should also think about the process that goes into making it and the true cost when we don’t get it from the right places.
