On 27 June, the IPO has launched new counter-infringement social media channels which will showcase our counter-infringement partnership work, educational campaigns and insights into counter-infringement research and strategy. As part of this, we have rebranded the current IP Crime Group Twitter account, to be renamed as IPO Counter-Infringement (@IPOEnforcement). We have also launched new channels on LinkedIn and Instagram.
Dids Macdonald OBE., CEO of Anti Copying in Design (ACID) said, “We have played an active role within the IP Crime Group for many years and witnessed its excellent work in combatting IP counterfeiting, piracy and copying. This is a proactive and outward facing social media presence, open to all, to share intel of different resources in the ongoing fight against IP crime and to raise consumer awareness about the dangers and consequences of buying fakes and copying original design. Well done to our colleagues at the IPO and we fully support this initiative. We encourage all ACID members to use these platforms.“
The accounts will continue to report on and share the successes of the IP Crime Group, and with a new dedicated manager for the channels, will be posting these updates much more frequently. We aim to share a broad range of successes from across industry, government and law enforcement and ask you to share your updates with us. Please let us know about any new initiatives, raids, events, and campaigns by emailing the team or tagging us in social posts.
Miles Rees, The IPO’s Head of Outreach Campaigns, said, “We are delighted to launch our new dedicated enforcement channels on social media. Complementing our main corporate IPO accounts, they will act as a platform to share successes – including our counter-infringement partnership work and the IPO’s educational campaigns – with all those allied in the fight against IP crime.
“The UK is widely regarded as a global leader in the enforcement of IP rights and tackling IP crime. We want to keep it that way, and effective partnerships across industry, law enforcement and government are at the core of our ambitious counter-infringement strategy.
“Together, we are working toward the long-term goal of making IP crime socially unacceptable to all, so it’s vital to raise awareness of the real harms this type of crime causes, as we support our law enforcement partners to help tackle criminal activity head-on. The new social media accounts will help us spread our crucial message far-and-wide, and are a great way to make sure you get all the latest updates on the IPO’s work to address addressing IP crime and infringement.”
