ACID’s affiliate partners, the Design Council, have shifted its entire focus towards Design for Planet: to aim to champion the power and responsibility of designers to address the climate emergency and shape a better world. Design for Planet will give a platform to visionaries from the sector who are leading the way in sustainability and climate-action, and support others in the industry to prioritise the welfare of their planet in their work.
As part of this they will be hosting a Design for Planet festival on 9th/10th November, alongside COP26 which is being hosted in the UK. Our two-day event will bring together 100 leading designers in person, and 1,000s more online – anyone can register for free here.
On day two of the festival, co-hosted with the British Council, they want to convene a roundtable of international design councils and design bodies. They are all doing inspiring work to promote sustainable design around the world, and it would be brilliant to come together as an international community. Each person will be given time to share their most interesting examples of design for planet and then discuss ideas for how they can be more powerful together.

Already within the Furniture and Furnishings Industry in my role of managing outward facing webinars for the Furniture Makers Company, we have tackled the subject in a thought-provoking discussion ‘Targeting carbon reduction – expectations for the furnishing industry’. I urge all those within our design community to visit the Design for Planet microsite and complete a survey for designers so they can understand the level of Design for Planet skills, to make the case for Government funding for more.”
Design Council say, “The roundtable will take place virtually on Wednesday 10th November 1030-1130 GMT on the Design for Planet event site.
